Coltrane Home board member Yasuhiro Fujioka was invited to try his hand at being a DJ at The Loft Radio in NYC! Fuji provided a fun, engaging, and educational experience that was done in celebration of the John Coltrane Centennial. The songs that Fuji chose for this show were tracks that were integral to Coltrane’s career as a jazz musician. The tracks played during this one our DJ session included “Song of the Underground Railroad”, “Greensleeves”, “Afro Blue”, “Alabama”, and of course a portion of “A Love Supreme”.
After each track concluded, Fuji provided brief historical context on how the songs impacted Coltrane’s jazz career, and how they connected with the politics of the world at the time. He also shared personal stories about the Coltrane family that have never been heard before.
