On September 13, 2024, the Half Hollow Hills Library hosted the very first “A Force For Good Day” as part of the “Year of Alice” celebrations. “A Force For Good Day” was designed to give back to the local Dix Hills community where John and Alice once resided. The event brought together various community resources and partners who all strive to be a force for good in their everyday lives. In the lobby of the library, community members had the opportunity to visit the different tables and learn more about helpful resources in their area. The Coltrane Home had their own table, where visitors could become more informed about the historic house and the ongoing efforts taking place to restore it.

In addition to the lobby tables, the event had live musical performances by both professional musicians and music students from across Long Island. Some of the musical talents featured included the Najee Quartet and musicians from the Louis Armstrong House. Musicians played arrangements from both John and Alice Coltrane.

Thanks to the support of the community, the very first “A Force For Good Day” was a huge success. In fact, it was so well received that the Coltrane Home is planning to hold a second “A Force for Good Day” in 2025 with the hopes of making it a yearly tradition going forward.
