The Mala Waldron Quartet Concert at Half Hollow Hills Library

On April 20, 2024, the Mala Waldron Quartet held a concert at the Half Hollow Hills Library. The quartet performed several compositions by Alice Coltrane, with Mala Waldron leading on vocals and piano, James Cammack on bass, Wayne Henderson on drums, and Wayne Schuster on saxophone. The concert featured songs from different periods of Alice’s life, which took attendees on a musical journey through her experiences.

Mala made time to speak about the life of Alice and introduced each selection before performing. This essential contextual background helped attendees see the direct connection between Alice’s music and her life. After the concert’s conclusion, attendees had the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session with the musicians. The lively audience members were able to take the microphone and spark conversation about Alice, Waldron’s career, and the overall lasting impact of the Coltrane’s.
