On December 29, 2023, The John and Alice Coltrane Home welcomed multiple esteemed visitors to its property for a special ceremony. Suffolk County officials, Brandon Bibby of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and JumpSMART representatives gathered as Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone presented the Home with an oversized check for $1.75 million dollars.
The $1.75 million dollar grant, which was funded by JumpSMART, aims to provide financial support to Suffolk County-based small businesses and nonprofits that strive to be assets to their communities. The John and Alice Coltrane Home was chosen as one of the grants recipients because of The Home’s cultural impact to Long Island history and its emphasis on continued community growth. At the ceremony, Ravi Coltrane gave a brief acceptance speech, emphasizing that there is still a powerful, uplifting spirit that remains in his childhood home. He expressed his gratitude to JumpSMART, saying that the grant will help The Coltrane Home fully achieve its dreams. The funds awarded will aid in the development of the interior of The Home such as in the basement studio and the meditation room, while also assisting with the building’s facade which is in desperate need of restoration.
The John and Alice Coltrane Home is eternally grateful to JumpSMART for awarding us with this incredibly generous grant. The Home also extends a special thanks to Steve Bellone for presenting the check to The Coltrane Home during the ceremony.
