Help us continue the hard work in saving and restoring the John and Alice Coltrane Home in Dix Hills (aka “The Coltrane Home”). Our goals of restoring the Home, creating a highly interactive and inspiring museum and learning center, uplifting meditation garden and park are only part of the Vision. Our music education mission – to assist children and people of all ages to participate in the making of music and through it, the celebration of creativity and diversity, and using “music as a force for good” is a critically important element as well.
Much has been accomplished since the Home, found in poor condition, was acquired and repairs began. Following an initial donation provided by Alice Coltrane and the Coltrane family, numerous donations of money and services came forth. A new roof, new siding, soffits, leaders and gutters are only a few of the many improvements made. Meanwhile, our fledgling music education program, after several years of extensive planning, is now conducting pilot workshops and classes.
The Coltrane Home is now moving forward aggressively to raise the funds necessary to complete the restoration and achieve the vision. Funds are badly needed for staffing, masonry repairs, and landscaping. Most importantly, mechanical systems – air conditioning and heating – must be installed to prevent the Home from falling into further disrepair. There is so much left to be done.
