John Coltrane’s Birthday

“Over all, I think the main thing a musician would like to do is give a picture to the listener of the many wonderful things that he knows of and senses in the universe. . . That’s what I would like to do. I think that’s one of the greatest things you can do in life and we all try to do it in some way. The musician’s is through his music.” – John Coltrane

John Coltrane’s intention to contribute to the wonders of the world has been realized more fully than his innate humility would have permitted him to imagine.  Today as we celebrate his 88th birthday, John Coltrane’s incredible legacy continues. “Offering: Live at Temple University” was released today (Resonance Records) to deserving critical acclaim and tremendous excitement amongst music fans.  This never before released recording from 1966 showcases Coltrane’s expansive creativity and the synthesis of his profound intentions with his art. “Offering” is just that: a gift from one of our most significant American artists to us on his own birthday.  May we all be inspired and elevated in remembrance and celebration of John Coltrane’s profound intentions and his rare ability to realize those intentions so beautifully.
