The Coltrane Legacy Show

Ravi Coltrane and David Liebman came together Sunday, September 28, at the Half Hollow Hills Community Library in Dix Hills, to talk about John Coltrane’s life, work, and music.  After the performance the artists visited the Coltrane Collection computer and enjoyed browsing through the images there with Coltrane collector and scholar Yasuhiro Fujioka.  More info and pictures here.

The program on Sunday was terrific. It was great to hear Ravi Coltrane and David Liebman share stories about the legend John Coltrane. It was also a real treat to hear them perform. I had the pleasure of seeing the Saxophone Summit perform at Birdland….sweet sweet music!! My students and I can’t wait to walk into the Coltrane Home when it is transformed into a place of learning. The Kids for Coltrane are continuing to learn in a creative and wonderful way. I am sure John Coltrane would have smiled if he could see the children inspired by his talent, discipline and peaceful spirit. Wall Street Journal writer and friend of John Coltrane, Nat Hentoff, told me that “John was and always will be a legend.”
Thanks again to Steve Fulgoni, Yasuhiro Fujioka and everyone involved in this important effort! Everyone spread the word about The Coltrane Home….This dream MUST become a reality! A special thank you to the Half Hollow Hills Library staff…congratulations on this special event!

BTW…It was also great to hear that McCoy Tyner will be in Huntington on October 18th. I just got my tickets!!…Hope to see you there.
